Search Coils

Search coils of the "mono" type are a kind of concentric coils and are used in pulse metal detectors. A distinctive feature of such coils is that two loops are located one in the middle of the other, which expands the field of their influence. Mono coils have the same properties as concentric coils, including the degree of impact of soil mineralization. They are great for littered fields and have good discrimination.

The concentric coils are equipped with a large radiating loop and a small receiving one, the centers of which are located on the same axis in the same plane. They create a symmetrical electromagnetic field in which the loops are scattered as far as possible. Concentric coils are mainly equipped with universal metal detectors, which are designed to cover the entire range of existing targets, but they are exposed to highly mineralized soil and at the same time may lose search depth indicators.

Coils using Double-D or DD-coils technology are called that way because of their shape – in the form of the letter "D". Due to this, they have increased sensitivity and are applicable for determining small targets and finding non-ferrous metals. Unlike concentric coils with a cone-shaped electromagnetic field, Double-D coils have a cylinder-shaped field, which makes it possible to detect targets equally accurately at any depth, but at the same time makes it difficult to accurately determine the location of the find. The advantages include less exposure to the influence of soil mineralization, which gives a more stable depth of search.
